Spain will be the first European country where IceCOLD will be implemented

IceCOLD Spain has just launched IceCOLD on the European market, a compound that allows air conditioning and refrigeration systems to work more efficiently, achieving savings – the figures are from the company – close to 20% in energy costs.

Spain will be the first European country where IceCOLD will be implemented, a project born in the United States and which, according to IceCOLD Spain forecasts, will be available shortly in the rest of Europe.

Marcos Barbas, CEO of IceCOLD Spain, explains that the product consists of "two synthetic catalysts and a lubricating agent, compatible with all refrigerants and refrigeration and air conditioning systems". Barbas indicates that IceCOLD not only allows the reduction of energy use, but also makes it possible to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

In the usual refrigeration systems the compressor oil circulates together with the refrigerant, adhering to the inner walls of the pipes. This process, called 'Oil-Fouling', inhibits heat transfer. According to associations of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, this oil contamination in pipes can decrease the performance of a system by more than 30%.  However, the Technical Department of IceCOLD Spain has been able to verify that when IceCOLD is added to the cooling system, the oil plate attached to the pipes is eliminated, improving heat transfer, the performance of the cooling system and extending the life of the mechanism. The most significant result: energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions are lower.

To the reduction of consumption and emissions is added that IceCOLD is not corrosive, helps to reduce the cost of repairing the equipment, reduces compressor noise, prolongs the useful life of the system, helps to clean and restore the oldest units, allows the amortization of the product in less than a year and its duration is equal to that of the life of the refrigeration system, so it is not necessary to replace it.

IceCOLD is also certified by the Globally Green Energy Consortium, an organization dedicated to improving the management of companies and industry in the environmental field, and whose objectives are the implementation and operation of green energy and the reduction of costs in energy use.

Applications

IceCOLD was born in 2002 in the United States. Currently in that country there are more than 2,000 refrigeration facilities that use the product, both in restaurants and in schools, hospitals, shopping centers or fleets, among other applications. The benefit of its use ranges from a reduction in electricity costs of 22.7% in a year in a chain of fast food restaurants to 16% in a fleet of refrigerated vehicles for the distribution of frozen food. In Spain, tests are being carried out in a chain of convenience stores, which are offering a saving of 19.55% in VRV direct expansion machines.
