United States. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has listed within its Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) list two new R123 alternatives and expanded acceptable uses of R513A and CO2 in air conditioning and refrigeration.
Already listed as acceptable as a foaming agent, 1336mzz HFO(Z) was determined to be acceptable in centrifugal chillers, positive displacement chillers, and industrial process air conditioning. This is in new equipment designed specifically for 1336mzz (Z) use and not as a retrofit. It is, however, considered acceptable for use as a new and retrofit gas in non-mechanical heat transfer applications.
Developed by Chemours, the HFO 1336mzz(Z) has been seen as a potential replacement for the R123. It has a 100-year GWP of around nine.
EPA has also expanded the acceptability of R513A as a substitute for R134a in new equipment or for retrofitting retail food refrigeration, refrigerated food processing and dispensing.
Marketed by Chemours as the Opteon XP10, the R513A was previously listed on SNAP for use in chillers.
