Panama. A Cold Chain facility known as Merca Panama, which was inaugurated about thirteen months ago for the storage of agricultural products, could become a space for the deposit of medicines.
According to the Panamanian Government, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Health, the installation of 40 hectares of land is located very close to the Hospital City, Chivo-Chivo area, so they consider that food storage should be avoided, to think that during the construction of the facility the environmental impact study developed in 2010 did not find any inconvenience.
Merca Panama had an investment of $124 million and about 25 hectares of the 40 would be implemented to deposit the medicines. In statements published by La Estrella de Panamá (laestrella.com.pa), health Minister Javier Terrientes said that "the change will represent more expenses for the State, but do we want to have a market right next to a hospital?" and added about the new decision that "it is not a crazy idea. In the end, this can benefit the health system seeking unification."
