Panama. The Panamanian Association of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Apayre, spoke out against the lack of regulation regarding the design of buildings "with huge and complete glass walls."
The association, headed by its president Pedro Vásquez, considers that this type of building has a technical problem that includes greater energy expenditure, problems in indoor air quality and in the safety of the occupants.
"We will initially refer to the enormous expenditure on electrical energy that is required to air condition those buildings. Panama is located about 8° North Latitude, has an intertropical climate where the sun contributes to the daily heat, which at its maximum reaches 33°C. When the sun hits the glass walls directly, its heat is directly transmitted to the interior of the building, so large air conditioning equipment is required to maintain the comfort of the occupants, "said engineer Vásquez.
The association calls for the architecture guild and other competent entities of the country to refer to this phenomenon, which, according to Apayre, is increasing the consumption of electrical energy in a high way.
