Brazil. The Southern Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heating and Ventilation (Asbrav), insists on the need to clean the air conditioning in buses, in order to avoid the appearance or worsening of respiratory diseases.
The air that reaches the transport users passes through the filter device, which without proper hygiene, allows the proliferation of mites, bacteria, viruses and fungi that cause bronchitis and rhinitis, as well as respiratory infections.
The rector of education and training of Asbrav, Paulo Beyer, commented on the matter that "it is a good idea to carry out the cleaning of the air filters during all months, and once a year it is important to do a total cleaning of the air conditioning system of the bus".
The association also recommends that it is necessary to disinfect the filters and the equipment itself, to prevent people from breathing a contaminated environment. In addition, the pipe through which the air is distributed must be cleaned, preventing the accumulation of dirt that can be inhaled by users. Air renewal is also critical.
