International. Ashrae announced that until June 18 it will receive public comments or contributions on the revision of the adaptation of the Ashrae/IES (Partnership of Lighting Engineers) standard for existing residential and commercial buildings, in order to gain greater energy efficiency.
The previous year, Ashrae and the HEI announced that they were revising the Ansi/Ashrae/Iesna 100-2006 standard on energy conservation in existing buildings to provide greater guidance and a broader approach to adapting existing buildings to achieve greater energy efficiency. The standard has existed since 1981, so importance was given to improving the requirements adapted to today.
"Information from the International Energy Agency indicates that the building sector consumes the most energy in the United States, using 41% of the country's total energy. With this new standard we can reduce usage by about three-quarters," said Rick Hermans, head of the committee that wrote the standard.
The proposed changes include criteria for surveys, requirements and audits on energy use, related to application and verification. Annexes are the procedures for analyzing life cycle costs, as well as identifying possible energy conservation measures.
