Mexico. Around US$250 million will be invested by the US firm Cannon Power Group in the construction of three wind farms in the country. With this energy, the National Government seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and raise the use of renewable energy to 26% by the end of 2012.
Overall, the project will have a capacity of 322 megawatts, which will join the 500 megawatts of wind energy currently available; however, the authorities expect that by next year that installed capacity will reach 2,000.
According to the president of the nation, Felipe Calderón, the country needs to generate the energy necessary for its development by reducing the use of fossil fuels. "To achieve this path we need projects that generate electricity without burning absolutely anything," he added.
The parks will be built in Baja California, in the north of the country, Zacatecas, to the northwest, and Quintana Roo, to the south.
