Argentina. At the end of 2011 it is expected that in the South American country the local production of air conditioning equipment for the residential sector will reach 95%, unlike the 85% registered in the previous two years. This was reported to local media spokespersons of the multinational Carrier.
According to the statistics portal Datamyne, Argentina during 2010 made the largest amount of import of split and mini split units from Turkey that led the records with 56% (27,255), followed by China with 24% (11,796), third was the Philippines with 17% (8,142). In total, that nation imported 48,788 units in the whole year.
So far in 2011 (January-April) China leads this category with 88% (3,318 units), followed by Japan with 6% (236 units) and the third place is occupied by South Korea with 4% (163 units), a trend that apparently indicates that Argentina will lean towards the Asian giant to import this type of systems this year.
Sales of these products reached 1.3 million units in 2010, close to 1.5 million in 2008, a record year in sales.
To reach the projected local production, Carrier expanded its Rio Grande plant after an investment of US $ 15 million, to market its products manufactured purely in that nation. In the same way, Noblex and Latec will manufacture these air conditioning systems in their respective plants, after making millionaire investments.
To encourage this, in Argentina there has been a regime since 2009 that gives a differential treatment in terms of taxes and VAT to products that compete with imports, among which are air conditioning equipment. Similarly, the National Government will limit from 2012 the trade of less efficient systems in energy consumption.
