USA. USA The automation system provider has agreed to extend the energy optimization program, which it is carrying out with Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L). Administered by Honeywell, this program includes the installation of programmable thermostats in residences and small businesses. The units include a search system that allows the utility to communicate with thermostats and turn them on or off for short intervals at peak power consumption.
Beyond the monetary benefits, the program is part of the Kansas utilities' strategy to respond to future power needs. 18,000 thermostats have been installed and 13,000 more are planned for the remainder of the program. Other utilities have partnered with Honeywell to implement demand response programs, including thermostats, such as san Antonio's energy program. Thermostat users receive the device for free and can reduce their heating and conditioning costs by up to 20%.
