[International] Beset by chaotic traffic, environmental pollution and greenhouse gases, the world's "megacities" will try to banish their polluting behaviors and apply common policies to become "green cities."
To achieve this, they will implement a series of measures: drastically cutting the flow of motor traffic; conversion of heating, cooling and lighting power systems, and making homes and buildings dose electricity consumption. The recipe will be applied in Tokyo, Mexico City, New York, Chicago, Houston, Toronto, London, São Paulo and Berlin.
In their offensive against global warming, representatives of more than 40 cities agreed in New York – where they met at the initiative of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former President Bill Clinton – rules to adapt buildings to "green technology" that, among other parameters, uses solar energy with storage panels on the roofs.
