In a 35-story building located in one of the most important cities of the Arab Emirates, hydraulic balance valves are installed.

The Burj Khalifa, one of the tallest buildings in the world, is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). With a staggering 160 floors, reaching 828 meters, the building takes your breath away. The Burj Khalifa is not only a famous skyscraper, but also a complex of buildings in the centre of Dubai, with residential buildings, office buildings, hotels and shops.
Two of the 35+story, high-rise residential buildings are perfectly balanced by an extensive Danfoss hydraulic balancing solution. The solution is offered for more than 800 inhabitants, with a pleasant indoor climate, even when the outside temperature rises to 40 °C or more, during the hot summer months.
"In the design phase, we convinced the contractors to use AB-QM valves due to the quick installation and short commissioning. But energy saving was also an important argument. Despite the fact that energy prices are much lower in the Gulf States in comparison, for example in Europe, awareness of energy saving is increasing in the UAE and supported by the UAE government," says Ismail Serhan Özten, area sales manager at Danfoss.
Indoor comfort and stable temperature
The most convincing argument in favour of this solution was the high level and stable comfort provided by the installation of the AB-QM.
"When the thermostat is adjusted, the temperature will remain stable due to the advanced balancing system. Even with variable outside temperatures and the demand for cold when people are away, the delicate installation of hydraulic balancing will ensure the appropriate flow to provide the desired level of cold in each apartment," explains Ismail Serhan, who worked closely with Mr. Abdul Latheef of engineering company Wotek Co.
The perfectly balanced flow also explains the energy savings obtained by the Danfoss solution. When the flow rate is highly controlled and stable, the required pumping will be greatly reduced, resulting in significant energy savings.
AB-QM valves are even maintenance-free as they contain no moving parts. In addition, the design of the valves prevents clogging during daily use.
"It was a pleasure to work with Danfoss and Wotek engineers throughout the project. The installation and commissioning in support helped us to obtain the operation of the valves in a fast and appropriate way. The product itself showed high value and quality of control during installation and operation, therefore the satisfaction of both the contractors and the building operation team was quite high," concluded Rida Biri, project manager at Penguin Engineering.
