With the purpose of spreading ecological culture and technical knowledge, the company VentDepot in conjunction with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), organized the 1st Symposium on Ecological Air Conditioning, which was held from October 5 to 7 at the Carlo Lazo Theater of the Faculty of Architecture.
Among the attendees were companies in the HVAC industry such as: Soler & Palau, Johnson Controls and Munters. On the last day of activities of the Symposium, the engineer Arturo Ibarra of Johnson Controls, offered a presentation on sustainable technologies and systems in the face of current environmental challenges, explained that regarding this topic the solutions of Johnson Controls include: energy efficiency, renewable energy and water efficiency.
"A technology that has been applied with great results is the heat pump," Eng. Ibarra explained that "the University of Texas invested 220 thousand dollars in the equipment and meant a saving of 260 thousand dollars a year in energy, with a return on investment in 10 months. This equipment was also applied in a hospital in Toronto, in Canada, the investment was 450 thousand dollars and allowed them to save 900 thousand dollars of energy in a year and their return on investment was in six months.
"The benefits of the heat pump are many, among the most important are that you can stop emitting 1 467 tons of CO2 per year, this is like removing 244 cars from circulation and as you do not need water, you can save 85 thousand 170 liters per day. " To end his conference, the Johnson Controls engineer recommended to the attendees that it is of vital importance to evaluate at least two solution alternatives to generate sustainable equipment. "An architect decides the architectural solutions, the engineers decide on the air conditioning," concluded Arturo Ibarra.
