This equipment can maintain a high degree of efficiency when the temperature outside the building is very low, taking into account that conventional heat pumps provide heating in winter and cool the air during the summer.
The idea is that this pump is used in cold regions where they use electric heating or powered by liquid propane, which increases the expenditure of money.
This project, which has had an investment of US$1.3 million, was founded by the U.S. Department of Energy. It is supported by Emerson Climate Technologies Inc. and Carrier Corp. The first company will work with researchers to create the prototype of the heat pump and Carrier will integrate it into a complete system.
This new technology works by modifying the conventional vapor compression cycle of standard air conditioning and refrigeration appliances.
